Siouxsie Sioux is the stage name of Susan Janet Ballion, an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer born on May 27, 1957. She was the Siouxsie and the Banshees’ primary vocalist (1976–1996). In addition to their 11 studio albums, they also had the US Billboard Top 25 hit “Kiss Them for Me” and multiple UK Top 20 songs, such as “Hong Kong Garden,” “Happy House,” and “Peek-a-Boo.”
Siouxsie founded the Creatures as a second band (1981–2005). She recorded four studio albums and the No. 1 song “Right Now” with the Creatures. She continued as a solo artist under the name Siouxsie when the Creatures broke up in the mid-2000s, and in 2007 she released the well-received album Mantaray.
One of the “most influential British singers of the rock period,” according to AllMusic, is Siouxsie. LCD Soundsystem, Tricky, and Jeff Buckley have all covered her tunes. Additionally, musicians like TV on the Radio and PJ Harvey have appreciated her albums. She earned the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award from the Q Awards in 2011 and the Inspiration Award from the Ivor Novello Awards in 2012.
Budgie and Siouxsie got married in May 1991. They relocated to the southwest of France the next year.
She revealed her divorce from Budgie in an August 2007 interview with The Sunday Times. She stated in a conversation with The Independent:
“I’ve never specifically stated that I’m heterosexual or lesbian. Although I am not truly one of those folks, I am aware that there are others. If I am drawn to males, I assume it means they tend to have more feminine qualities.
