Since 2017, Matthew Louis Gaetz II has served as the first congressional district representative in Florida. On May 7, 1982, he was born in the United States.
He is a Republican who has emerged as one of former President Donald Trump’s most significant legislative allies and has been described as a follower of far-right ideology.
Gaetz was reared in Florida’s Fort Walton Beach and is the son of renowned Florida politician Don Gaetz.
After graduating from William & Mary Law School, he briefly practised law before deciding to run for state representative.
From 2010 to 2016, he served as the representative for Florida in the House of Representatives. After Trayvon Martin’s murder in 2012, he rose to prominence for defending the state’s divisive stand-your-ground law.
